Team 5

hey ladies                (october 22, 2008- fifth meeting)

We had a great day with Wall_e Junior today. I accidentally forgot my laptop today, but we were able to use Mrs. Wood's laptop instead. We finally caught up with our questions today......even though it isn't completly necessary for us to do it, its good to any way so we understand what we're doing.

We programmed Wall-E Junior to follow a bold black line with his light sensor. It was pretty funny because I drew the line and made a loop at the end and every time he came up to the loop he would get confused and go straight. It was pretty amusing for the time being.

We have to new members of our team today as well, Kayla (11th) and Daisy (9th). They seem to be really enjoying Wall-E Junior a lot and they learned a lot as well.

Well, keep up the good work guys!

(october 15, 2008)- No meeting; PSATs

Hey gals,                     ( October 8, 2008- forth meeting)

Now that Wall-E Junior can say ouch and has a demonic laugh, we're trying to focus on other things as well. For example, today we programmed him to start on command and stop on command. Its pretty easy actually. We just picked the program, pressed "run", and when one of clapped he moved foward and continued until one of clapped again then he stopped. We were really enjoying oursleves with that. Sr.Eileen was amused as well. We showed her that Wall-E Junior can move on command and talk. I think he likes her because he was following her (hahahaha)

This meeting was pretty cool. The only thing is that we have to keep up with that darn binder. We're always caught up with Wall-E Junior and everything he does, that we don't have time to answer all the questions, but we find a way to keep up.

Can't wait till next week guys!

Whats up everyone                     (october 1, 2008- third meeting)

Well, we're already on our third meeting and our robot is getting advance. instead of saying "ouch" all the time, Wall-E Junior actually laughs. its actually the funniest thing in the world! its not even a cute laugh.....he has like an evil scientist thing going on its pretty funny actually. We ran out of time to make him say anything else. It's not easy, but we'll figure it out.

Everyone's robot looks awesome. A lot of robots are walking around all over the place now....good thing they have numbers, heh?!?! Anyway, keep up the good work everyone!

Hey you guys, Alex again     ( sept. 24, 2008- second meeting)

Robotics is getting better and better. Now that we have Wall-E Junior all built, we're really starting to move up on programming him. We are almost going to get done with project 1 and we're going to be moving on soon.

So I had a conversatoin with Wall-E Junior today. This is how it went:

Alex: hey Wall-E Junior, how you been?

Wall-E Jr: Ouch

Alex: How was your day?

Wall-E Jr- Ouch

Alex: Ugh.... What do you have planned for the rest of the day?

Wall-E Jr: Ouch

Well I think you can all see where this is going. My group is really excited on getting him to actually say words/phrases like " Hello", or " My name is Wall-E Junior", that way when I ask him a question his answer isn't "ouch". We even found out today that he can send messages to fellow robots. We attempted, but failed. I guess we just have to take things one step at a time. Jelanie seems to be a little intimidated by the whole thing, but she'll come along. As for Kristen, Farshiya, and Melanie, they're really getting the hang of things. Farshiya really knows how to program Wall-E junior more than anyone else on the team. She's really good at it. Everyone is good at something on our team so we all know how to work together.

Today we also decided on who would be captain of our team.....everyone voted and picked me. I'm happy to serve this team and be a part of this club and I can't wait to see how this year continues and see how well everyone elses robot work out. Then we can all send messages to each other!!!

We still can't get him to stop running over the little leggo dude! It just shows you that Wall-E is his own person. One thing you should know is that once you come up with a name for your robot, you really start to get attached to it.....I know I am!!!! Also, start coming up with group names unless you all want to be a number.

Any how, I'm really excited about working with everyone for this year. You are all doing a great job with all robots. Keep up the goos work everyone because we're going to make robotics club the club everyone talks about!!!!!  :]

September 17th

Hey Guys.....Alex here.......

Well Robotics is by far the coolest club at ASJ. The best part of being in it is just having fun with your friends and working together.

So far, we are assembling our robots and learning how to program them. My team already put together our whole robot! His name is Wall-E Junior. We already programed him to walk on his own, watch out for walls, make a 360 degree turn and say "ouch"! He's a very active little thing. We're still trying to figure out how to stop him from running over the little lego dude.

The hardest thing about building this robot is:

               1. some of the pieces are very tiny and hard to hold on to

               2. its hard to put certain pieces together........you have to put up a fight to get a certain piecce together like putting the black rod

through the orange arm piece for the wheels..... I was deffinatley sweating at that one!

               3. you have to pay attention to every detail of instructions. If you make one mistake I grauntee you will have to start over trust me....

                    it will happen

After that I guess you really won't have a problem with your robot. Programing it is pretty simple, you just have to watch the video and they will show how it's done and you will get the hang of it.....I know we did.

OH .......and remember to have fun guys.....trust me if you just relax and work together you will have an awesome robot!     ^_^

So now that Wall-E Junior can laugh and say 'ouch', do you think you can get him to dance? :o)
