Mrs Wood's "Who Am I"

Page history last edited by Monica Wood 1 yr ago

If you're in or have taken one of Mrs. Wood's classes, then you've completed a "Who Am I?" form as your first homework assignments.  Here is Mrs. Wood's own.

Name: Monica Wood

Station:  None

I like to be called (Leave blank if you prefer your legal first name) Mrs. Wood

Don’t ever call me Mrs. Woods

When I have free time, I like to learn new techie things that I can share with my students and collegues; cook; play with my puppy Oscar; travel, especially to spend time with friends who don't live nearby.

Select one:

qx I do have an e-mail address.  It is mathdept@asjli.org

q       I don’t have an e-mail address.

The telephone number and time of day that I am most likely available to discuss you and your school work (include area code) before 8:30 at 631-273-2406, but it's best to email.

Teaching

I like when teachers give you time to digest what they've said.

I don’t like when teachers aren't organized; erase the board before you've copied the information or write all over the board in an unorganized way. I'm a visual learner, so I like when teachers write on the board.

School

Activities/sports that I plan to join this year are math team and the robotics club.

The answers to the following two statements will not be held against you:

My favorite subject is mathematics because there's such beauty in it.  There's usually many ways to solve a problem. There's a saying:  "Do math and you can do anything!"

After math, finance is my favorite.  I can't get away from numbers.

My least favorite subject is can't say because my collegues may get insulted.

Math

What I like most about Math is how so much is connected.

What I like least about Math is feeling that you've only scratched the surface of what can be learned.

What I find easiest about Math is coming to class everyday.

What I find most difficult about Math is remembering formulas that you don't use all of the time.

What I find most distracting in Math class are public address announcements and when people talk when someone else is speaking.

Anything else you would like to tell me

Besides teaching, I'm also a student.  I am a doctorial student at Teachers College in New York City.  I am working towards my doctorate in mathematics education.  My areas of interest are mathematics and gender, specifically females and mathematics, and the appropriate integration of technology as a tool in the teaching of mathematics.
