Grading

Final Grade is an average of four grades: The three trimester grades and the final examination grade.

Trimester grades will reflect student’s performance as follows:

90%           tests and quizzes

–        Tests will be administered at the completion of a topic with a minimum notice of three days.

–        Quizzes will be administered once or twice during the study of a topic with a minimum notice of two days.

–        NOTE:  All missed tests and quizzes must be made up within one cycle under most circumstances.  Failure to complete the missed test or quiz within this time will result in a failing grade for this assessment.

10%           homework (Anticipate it every night, including Friday!)

–        Students begin each marking period with a homework grade of 100.  At the end of the marking period-

·         If a student receives all check marks - student receives 100.

·         For any "p"s not removed from my grade book, 5 points are deducted from 100.

·         For any "0" not removed from my grade book, 10 points are deducted from 100.

Homework Policy:

Homework is assigned after every class. Homework is to be completed in your notebook beginning on a new sheet of paper so that it may be removed for classes that it is collected.

Homework will be collected without notice.  For full credit, all appropriate work must be shown. Without supporting calculations or descriptive reasoning, answers alone will receive no credit.

Students who have no or incomplete homework will be assigned Academic Detention after one day grace.  Academic Detention must be served on date assigned by Mrs. Wood.

In the case of an absence, it is the STUDENT'S RESPONSIBILITY to obtain the homework assignment from a classmate or Mrs. Wood’s webpage http://my.homeworknow.com/teacher/mrswood All missed homework must be made up within the cycle.

Each homework assignment is checked for effort on the following scale:

·         All problems attempted - a check for completion is recorded.

·         Problems partially completed - a "p" for partially complete is recorded.

·         Not attempted - a zero is recorded.

One "grace" day is allowed on all assignments.  A student can finish an assignment that was incomplete or prepare an assignment that received zero credit.  There are two stipulations on use of the "grace" day:

(1) The "make up" assignment must be thoroughly complete and the student is responsible for placing it in her folder at the next class meeting.  I will not ask for make up work.  If thoroughly prepared, a check mark is given.

(2) If a student uses the "grace" day privilege on consecutive days or "too often", I retain the right to remove the privilege for a designated amount of time.
